The wurst place possible
On the front of the bow on the boat tour in Heidelberg.
If you're wondering why I spelled worst wrong, it’s because I wasn’t actually trying to spell worst, I meant wurst, like the German sausage. When we arrived in Heidelberg, which is in Germany, we went on a boat tour that wasn’t really a boat tour, more like a relaxing boat ride up and down the Neckar (Neck-are) River. The river was interesting, because that day we saw a dragon boat, yknow, like the hardcore rowing boats where like 20 people all row at the same exact time, and a few days later, we saw a guy wind foiling.
The next few days, we drove to a bunch of small German towns. The first one was probably the most interesting. When we got there, we went looking around for a winery, and we found one, but there was no one inside the winery. So we started to walk towards the entrance, but then a guy walked out of a door, and he didn’t speak English, so we were using Google Translate and hand motions to tell him that we wanted to taste some of his wine, cuz he looked like the owner. He was like ok, ok, and then led us into the wine tasting room. Eventually, he called the owner of the toy museum and the ice cream shop + another neighbor to translate while we tasted wine (Mia and I tasted sparkling white grape juice). It wasn’t until later that we found out that the wine tasting wasn’t open till 4!
After Freinsheim, we visited Deidesheim, where we went to a beer garden and then had a delicious dinner. We also visited the black forest, where we went on a hike, had a lot of cake, and went to another little town. The rest of the time, we were just in Heidelberg! The last day, we visited Heidelberg Castle, which was basically all in ruins, except for the wine cellar.
Highlights from Freinsheim & Deidesheim
Eating delicious spaghetti ice cream at the toy museum in Friensheim. My sister and I are still wondering if there is an ice cream shop in the museum, or a museum in the ice cream shop. And if you’re wondering, the spaghetti was ice cream, the parmesan was coconut, and the tomato sauce was strawberry jam.
Me blogging at a beer garden in Schloss Park, in Deidesheim. At one point, a lady wanted to use the swing so she could “train her dog to learn how to ride a bike” I was like, uh, erm, huh because at first, she was talking to me in German! Eventually, she realized that I wasn’t German, but I guess she thought I was.
Highlights from the Black Forest
On a lynx hike in the black forest, where there were a lot of lynx-related activities, like jumping as far as a lynx, and looking for the lynx’s prey, even though we sadly did not see any real lynxes. 😢
Black Forest cake no. 1! My dad and I were on a mission to find 3 Black Forest cakes in one day. We failed the mission.
Black forest cake no. 2! This was in Gengenbach, and I took the pic!
A few more from Heidelberg & around
Mia posing with a statue in Ladenburg (😮). Ladenburg was the last town we visited, and we found a bunch of statues that we started to play with near the main square.
A decorative lemonade stand in Heidelberg. It was hot in Heidelberg, so we had two rounds. One the first day, and one the second day with lemonade and rose water.
Last day in Heidelberg, on the old bridge. It was kinda windy, as you can tell from our hair.
The trump bakery. Sadly, it was closed.
Heidelberg staaaaaats!
Best food: black forest cake
Best shopping: Käthe Wohlfahrt (the Christmas shop)🎄
Fun fact: Another reason why I thought Freinsheim was the most interesting town was because Trump’s grandfather was born near there, so they had a bakery dedicated to the orange guy’s grandpa.
Best things to see/do: The lynx hike
Where we stayed: Boutique Suites and Residences Heidelberg
How 2 pronounce: Hi-dull-burg, Frayn-shym, lay-den-burg, gang-’n-bach, die-des-hime
