Fjord your information…

… there are over 1,700 fjords (fee-yourds) in Norway, and we only visited 4 of them. Wow. After we went to Bergen, we drove to Flåm, and we took a boat tour around Aurlandsfjord and Nærøryfjord, which are little parts of Sognefjord, the largest fjord. We had to wear these weird suits, so if we fell in the freezing water, we wouldn’t freeze.

Then, we went to a kind of viking pub, I guess, called ÆGIR. After, we drove about 15 min more to reach the village we were staying in. As the boat tour driver said, there are three interesting things about this village:

  1. There are more goats than people! There are only about 80 residents, and over 500 goats.

  2. Undredal is famous for their brown cheese, or Brunost. As the boat tour lady said, it is like a Snickers bar!

  3. If you like Frozen, you know that Elsa and Anna live in Arendale. Well that town, was based off of this town, Undredal!

Mia in the “freezing water” suit. I was wearing one identical to it, and my parents were wearing green ones.

When we were driving to Undredal, we saw this ginormous stampede of goats rushing by! I have no idea what they were doing. Crazy goats.

The next day, we went to Mount Prest, and did a “hard” hike, which had so much elevation, that when my sister and I got up to the top, we threw snowballs. The people who were coming down said that when they went up, it was snowing! At the top of the mountain, there was no wind protection, so we ate our lunch with the wind and the snow (🥶 + 💨). After that, we ate dinner at the only restaurant in Undredal, where we sampled all of their local cheeses, including Brunost, the cheese that supposedly tasted like a Snickers (it tastes like fudge).

We found a patch of snow on top of Mount Prest. This is Mia and me showing our parents the amazing abilities of snow.

After Undredal, we drove to Stryn, which is in Nordfjord. Nordfjord…Nordfjord…that’s fun to say. On the way, we stopped at a bakery called Fredag and Fretland. We took a tour of the baking area, where some croissants were baking! While we were in Stryn, we went hiking (2 times! 🤯), took the Loen skylift, and went fishing in the fjord. We caught one mackerel, one whiting, and a bunch of haddock, which we had so much of that it became our dinner for a couple of days!

My sister caught a haddock and the mackerel, I caught two haddock, and my dad caught the whiting and the other haddock.

Us eating our second fish dinner, and me wondering what haddock + ritz tastes like.

Our next stop, Geirangerfjord, was one of the two places that we were only going to stay in for 1 day. Even though we only stayed there for a short time, we still did a lot of things. We did two hikes (one to an abandoned farm on top of a hill and one that took us behind a waterfall), went to a chocolate shop, and had dinner at a restaurant with lots of goats! I was kinda sad when a plate of baby goat arrived at our table, but secretly, it (she or he) was delicious 😭.

The view from the farm hike.

Us looking at the waterfall. It was so loud, we had to scream to talk to each other. pov: WOW MIA!! THIS IS AMAZING, ISN’T IT?!?!?!?!?!?!

Me petting the goats at the restaurant with a lot of goats.

Our last stop in Norway was Alesund, and we only stayed there a day. We took a short hike that was 418 stairs to get to a viewpoint of the city, went to the spa, and then we drove to the airport!

Us in the sauna. My dad took a swim in the freezing water after (→), but us girls were too chicken. We just dipped our feet in, then ran away screaming.

Us looking out at the water, trying to convince my dad to chicken out too. ( Don’t do it!!! Don’t do it!!! You’re going to get frozen to death!!! DOOOOONNNNNN’TTTTT!!!)
